We Shall Do What We Want or What We Need?
Assalamualaikum...
"We Shall Do What We Want or What We Need?" Looks like this confusion has not been resolved in my mind. I want to do this or I need to do this? And obviously, the first one is a lot easier (I want to do this!) as you are voluntarily willing to take the step towards that, rather than being forced by the circumstances.
I think in everything we do, we shall begin with this is mind "I want to do this!". I will be easy to set our mind to think that way on a certain situation but, there will be a time where you find it is very hard to think that way. There is a time where you are scared to take the path but you need to do that and that is also what you want but because of the circumstances you are in, you are bound to take a certain risk to get to what you want. This is the time where you really need to have the courage to say "Yes, I want to do this and I am willing and prepared to face whatever challenges waiting for me ahead".
Because if your dream doesn't scare you, that means your dream is not big enough. So, it's only natural that you feel scared at the beginning, but deep inside you know this is what you want and you can do this.

So, the answer to the question "We Shall Do What We Want or What We Need?":
If you think what you are facing is good for you and is what makes you happy, then reprogrammed your mind to say to yourself "I want to do this!".
"We shall always do what we want" that should always be the case. Whenever you thought 'I Need to do this, quickly re-programmed your mind, 'I Want to do this'... That way you are more in control of your life, more inspired and motivated to achieve your goal.
And to do that, you need courage, valour and fearlessness to take a leap of faith to live your dreams (what you want). If you are too afraid, you can never move forward with peace and ease. Pray Istikharah and constantly Dua's to Allah to guide you and show you if that dream is best for you or not.
